The forum was attended by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and politicians from both two countries.
SK E&S and T&T Group will join forces to convert Quang Tri's thermal power plant from coal-fired to LNG power, along with the development of low-carbon projects, including hydrogen.
Under the agreement, the two sides will also co-develop carbon credit projects, research the establishment of an LNG hub, advance investment promotion, and help Quang Tri to lure investments in potential and sustainable areas.
On April 15, Quang Tri People’s Committee gave approval for SK E&S and T&T Group to carry out a feasibility study. The province also submitted a document to the government and Ministry of Industry and Trade seeking approval for the project and adding it to the Power Development Plan VIII implementation strategy.
SK Group and Quang Tri People's Committee also signed an MoU for cooperation on energy solution packages.
At the forum, Yoo Young-wook, vice president of SK E&S, said, "To support Vietnam's energy transition towards the net-zero goal by 2050, SK E&S is focused on developing a sustainable energy ecosystem. SK E&S will partner with T&T Group to develop green and sustainable energy projects in Quang Tri,” he said.
In June 2023, T&T Group and Korean companies Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) and SK Group signed an MoU to cooperate on developing LNG and hydrogen projects in Vietnam.
