Binh Dinh province suffered the heaviest consequences with 11 deaths. The flooding also damaged 100,000 houses and submerged national and local roads.

As of early December 18, water levels in rivers in the Central region remained high. South Central Coastal localities were forecast to encounter heavy rain. So far, 16 hydro-electricity power water reservoirs have discharged water to the lower sections.

Members of the Central Steering Committee yesterday summoned a meeting to assess losses and seek ways to provide emergency relief for flood victims; support local residents to build houses, clean and pasteurize the environment, and prevent diseases.

The Central Steering Committee asked ministries, agencies, and localities to keep a close watch on the flooding for timely response; evacuate people to safer place; ensure safety of water reservoirs as well as transport safety.

So far, serious and widespread flooding are hitting Binh Dinh. In other provinces from Thua Thien-Hue to Quang Ngai, Phu Yen to Khanh Hoa, severe flooding was on the decline.
