According to reports published by the local authorities, Nguyen Huy Tho and his employees had confessed that Romal imported a massive volume of goods including induction cookers, microwave ovens, infrared cookers, electric fans and gas stoves from Wintime Import and Export Trading Limited of Zhongshan Company located in Guangdong, China.

All of the above products were then relabelled as famous European brands and distributed via Romal’s retail shops, many websites, local supermarkets and shopping centres in many large cities across the country such as Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Danang and Ho Chi Minh City.

From June 2012 to January 2015, Romal imported 14,846 products to Vietnam, worth $500,000. After being slapped with counterfeit European labels, these products were sold at an average price of VND15 million ($700), four to five times the price of the actual Chinese products.

In their testimonies, Romal’s employees claimed that the company’s retail shops got 50 per cent of the revenue after each product sold.

Earlier, on January 22, local authorities summoned the company’s directors Nguyen Thi Ninh and Nguyen Huy Tho as well as other relevant persons to testify. Simultaneously, local authorities carried out inspections at the company’s retail shops.
