Sponsored by KOICA via their local partner REMANN Co., Ltd., the scholarship programme was kicked off in April 2018 and was open to all third-year students currently attending UEL and UEH—two of the top business schools in the southern region.
The programme went through two rounds of qualifications to select 30 top students who were then awarded an intensive training course on IT auditing for finance and credit organisations. The course took place over four days in the middle of June and was equivalent to three academic credits.
In this course, the participants had a chance to gain IT audit knowledge and skills via practical and interactive sessions conducted by experienced experts from PwC and REMANN. The students were also introduced to the regulations on the assurance of information systems’ safety and security in banking (Circular No.31/2015/TT-NHNN), as well as international standards, methodologies, and other regulations in the field of IT audit.
Following the conclusion of the programme, participating students received certificates of completion from PwC Vietnam Cybersecurity and REMANN, in addition to offers of internship opportunities at the two organisations.
According to the organisers, IT systems make up the foundation for many businesses, especially in the digital era. It has become essential for businesses to efficiently operate their IT system, implement system and process controls for transparent reporting, minimise operational risks, and ensure the security of the IT system.
For these reasons, skills in IT risk analysis and assessment as well as data privacy are sought after by many recruiters. Equipped with formal training in IT audit, fresh graduates will gain a competitive edge in their job search and later on, career progression.
The scholarship programme “Basic principles in IT audit for finance and credit organisations 2018” is a pioneering model to promote IT audit as an academic choice in Vietnamese universities, thereby opening up new educational and career paths for the local students.
