Effective from December 1, 2015, Minh will replace Dr Nguyen Anh Tuan, who served as VIR’s editor-in-chief since January 2007.
At the conferral ceremony, which was conducted at the office’s headquarters in Hanoi, Vinh affirmed that the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) was a consulting agency for both the party and the government. Over recent years, the government had been pinning its hopes on the MPI for various important tasks.
Vinh said that VIR’s editorial board and staff should discern the office’s role and status as the press office of the MPI. As such, VIR must contain insightful articles reflecting the country’s socio-economic development, while providing a helpful commentary on national policies.
Vinh also noted that Vietnam currently has had quite a few well-known economic newspapers aside from VIR. As such, he urged VIR to fulfil its great potential.
He requested that VIR’s leadership and staff build it into a stronger press office, thus maintaining its pole-position as Vietnam’s leading international newspaper, while moving towards becoming a major regional-level press office.
“I believe that under the leadership of VIR’s editorial board, and the new editor-in-chief, the press office will enhance its fine traditional traits, such as solidarity and unity, dynamism and creativity,” Vinh said.
He asked VIR to continuously improve the quality of its articles and reporters, adding that the group of newspapers needed to make bigger contributions to the MPI, and indeed to the country’s socio-economic development. He reminded staff that VIR must always remain worthy of being the press office of the MPI.
“I would like to congratulate Tuan on accomplishing his tasks with excellence since early 2007. The MPI’s leadership and I highly commend and recognise all the achievements that have been made by Tuan,” Vinh said.
“I also wish Minh every success. Minh is an able person who has more than 20 years of journalism experience and is quite knowledgeable about VIR’s operations. I hope that Minh will lead VIR along a new development path,” he continued.
Thanking Vinh, the MPI’s leadership for their great support, and congratulating Minh on becoming the new editor-in-chief, Tuan affirmed that VIR was currently witnessing new advantages and opportunities for development. However, he also said that “certain challenges lay ahead”.
“I expect that my successor, Minh, will conduct himself with exemplary devotion to the work at hand, thus securing the development and future of VIR,” Tuan said.
Extending his gratitude to Vinh and Tuan, Minh said that the minister’s words would help VIR map out its future direction. He also expressed his heartfelt thanks to VIR’s editorial board and staff for their great support to him over past years.
Minh affirmed that VIR would continue its fine traditions to strengthen its further development. He added that the VIR group of newspapers would continue expanding its readership, winning the confidence of both local and foreign readers alike, while raising the reputation of the MPI.
The VIR group of newspapers currently has five printed publications – the Vietnam Investment Review, Timeout, Dau tu, Dau tu Chung khoan and Dau tu Bat Dong San, as well as three newswires vir.com.vn, baodautu.vn and tinnhanhchungkhoan.vn. VIR also produces a variety of special publications on property, mergers and acquisitions, energy, climate change, and foreign relations.
