Maggie Q, fiancé to arrive in Vietnam for wildlife conservation this week

Renowned American actress Maggie Q and her fiancé, actor Dylan McDermott, will start partaking in a wildlife conservation program in Vietnam, her mother’s home country, later this week.

Maggie Q and McDermott will be in the Southeast Asian country from April 9 to 13 for a campaign to help save endangered animal species, including rhinos, local newswire Zing reported.

Vietnam is one of the world’s main consumers of rhino horn, which is falsely believed by many to boast medicinal properties, according to the Humane Society International, which works to protect all animals, including laboratory and farm animals, companion animals, and wildlife.

In 2009, Maggie Q visited Vietnam as the goodwill ambassador for a campaign to help rescue moon bears, according to local newswireVnExpress.

A large number of moon bears, or Asiatic black bears, have been kept in captivity and had their bile cruelly extracted, though the thriving bear-bile farming is illegal in Vietnam and the animal has been listed globally as a critically-endangered species.

VnExpress once cited the actress of Vietnamese origin as saying that she always feels a kin-like bond with Vietnamese fans.

Maggie Q, who was born to a Vietnamese mother and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, was catapulted to international fame starring in action-thriller series “Nikita” that aired from 2010 to 2013.

The 35-year-old actress is also known for her roles in “Rush Hour 2,” “Naked Weapon,” “Mission Impossible 3,” and her latest film “The Divergent Series: Insurgent.”

She is a fixture on world-famous fashion magazines as a model.

The actress has been active in animal conservation and environmental protection.

Maggie Q and McDermott were engaged late last year.

She carved out a successful modeling career in Hong Kong.
