Supporting for the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Hanoi, the hotel hosts 24 delegations including representatives from Europe, South America and the Gulf States all in attendance on March 28 – April 1, 2015.
Nearly 50 parliamentary speakers from around the world consider a wide range issues including global peace and security. With the recent attacks in Tunisia and Paris, the ongoing atrocities committed by Boko Haram in Nigeria, Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in the Middle East and North Africa, and the destruction of cultural heritage etched on global consciousness, five of the six proposals for an emergency resolution tabled so far by various IPU members relate to terrorism. A sixth proposal from Jordan focuses on respect for religions and religious symbols as well as freedom of speech. Created as a platform to discuss global peace and security, starting from March 27, the event features networking activities for more than 700 Members of Parliamentarians (MPs) from 127 countries.
“The partnership with Inter-Parliamentary Union offers us the opportunity to contribute to a better and more sustainable future,” said Simon Cooper, president and managing director, Asia Pacific, and Marriott International.
The 132nd IPU Assembly will also mark the 30th anniversary of the Meeting of Women Parliamentarians. The meeting has not only provides women MPs a platform to make their voice heard in international political decision-making, it empowers them to take a shared vision for gender equality to their national parliaments and put it into action. Nearly 200 women MPs attend the Hanoi meeting.
