On December 23, Japan Desk Thanh Hoa held the second meeting on the socioeconomic situation of Thanh Hoa province in 2021, the desk’s target activities in 2022, as well as report on the settlement of recommendations and proposals of Japanese investors in the province.

Hoang Si Tuan, deputy director of Thanh Hoa Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Agency and head of Japan Desk Thanh Hoa said that, “After listening to the difficulties and proposals of Japanese enterprises at the first meeting [in late October], the desk immediately started working with each business to support them in resolving their problems.”

Notably, the desk contacted the province’s medical centre and 15 Japanese enterprises operating in the province, including 12 businesses in Nghi Son Economic Zone and industrial parks and three others, to support them with vaccination. As the result, by the end of November, all 59 Japanese people have received two doses of the vaccine.

Regarding the proposal of Nomura Thanh Hoa Garment Co., Ltd., Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical LLC, and Nghi Son Cement Corporation to create favourable conditions for the entry of foreign experts holding work permits, the desk co-operated with Thanh Hoa Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Department of Foreign Affairs to guide and support companies to complete entry files and submit them to the chairman of Thanh Hoa People’s Committee for approval. The desk reported that it takes only five days to approve an entry file for a foreign expert and their family members.

Besides, the dossiers of foreign experts looking to enter the province to work for a short time (less than 30 days no more than three times a year) to handle problems at factories, were also given priority for approval.

The desk also committed to supporting Sakurai Vietnam Co., Ltd. to recruit 1,200 employees for the expanded plant, which is expected to start operation in July 2022. Besides, the desk issued specific explanations and solutions for unexpected incidents impacting enterprises, such as the sudden power failure at Sakurai and failure of the drainage system surrounding Nghi Son Cement Co., Ltd.

“We work with each enterprise and each authority to thoroughly resolve their problems so that they can operate stably, especially in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” Tuan said. “Accompanying enterprises during investment and operation process is considered an effective investment promotion on-spot method, which will help reinforce investors’ trust in the province’s investment environment, creating a foundation for their expansion and reputation for calling new investors."

Speaking at the meeting, Kurino Jun, third secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, highly appreciated the desk’s promptitude in dealing with proposals and requirements of Japanese enterprises.

“We hope that the desk will cooperate with the medical centre to administer the third vaccine shot for the experts of Japanese companies. We are also willing to support Thanh Hoa to connect with Miyagi and Toyama provinces to organise investment promotion programmes,” Jun said.
