"As part of our green growth strategy, we are focusing on green resources and infrastructure, alongside prioritising sectors like high-tech manufacturing and green startups," said Mai, during a meeting in San Francisco on November 16, which was a part of the APEC High-Level Week activities.
He emphasised the city's commitment to sustainable development, citing plans to boost clean energy by 35-40 per cent by 2030, develop green transportation systems, enhance waste management, and promote the growth of carbon credits and green finance.
Patrick Sweeney, vice president of Business Executives for National Security said,"Our member companies are highly interested in the development of Ho Chi Minh City, particularly in sectors like technology, aerospace, defence, finance, healthcare, and energy."
Ho Chi Minh City officials marked the event by exchanging several MoUs and letters of intent with American firms to advance high-tech projects. These agreements aim to facilitate collaboration in areas pivotal to the city’s green and technological advancements.
"These collaborations will pave the way for a more sustainable and technologically advanced future for Ho Chi Minh City, enhancing our position as a dynamic and forward-looking urban centre," said Mai.
At a round-table hosted by Vietnam's Ministry of Planning and Investment the day before, city departments signed agreements with the Green Alliance to promote investment in green growth and sustainable development initiatives across Ho Chi Minh City.
These include partnerships in the development of innovation centres and AI applications in transportation, underscoring the city's commitment to embracing cutting-edge technology and environmental stewardship.
