Fishermen on a Vietnamese fishing boat from central Quang Ngai Province have rescued four foreigners who were drifting at sea off Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago in the East Sea on January 5.

Nguyen Huu Phuc, 32, the owner of fishing boat QNg 90325 TS, reported that he and twelve fishermen on board were fishing in the waters of Truong Sa’s Da Loi Island when they detected the foreigners.

These foreigners were drifting on their lifebuoys and all of them were exhausted due to hunger, thirst and cold, Phuc said.

The victims, who are likely Filipino, were taken on board the boat and given care, Phuc said.

All of the four foreigners have recovered after days of care, he added.

On Tuesday afternoon, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Do Ngoc Nam, deputy commander of the provincial Border Guard, said that the force has been informed of the case.

The fishing boat is expected to bring the foreigners to Sa Ky Port, Quang Ngai Province, on January 10, Nam said.

The case has been reported to the provincial People’s Committee and the provincial Department of Foreign Affairs and steps are being prepared to support the foreigners.
