EU, Vietnam partner on climate change

Developing advanced ‘zero emission’ technologies based on carbon dioxide capture and geological storage was the topic of discussion at a November 20 climate change and energy seminar in Hanoi.

“Vietnam also needs to promote other clean energy sources as well as energy efficiency, energy conservation, and renewable energy,” said Ambassador and Head Bruno Angelet of the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam.

To assist in accomplishing these and other climate change efforts such as reducing the energy intensity of the nation’s economy, Angelet unveiled a US$427 million aid package sourced from the World Bank (WB) and Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha in turn speaking on behalf of the nation expressed his sincere appreciation for the support from the EU member countries and banks.

He specifically thanked the representatives in attendance from Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and France for their past and continuing technological assistance to protect the nation’s environment.
