With the theme of “Internet and digital eco-system of Vietnam,” Internet Day 2018 took place on December 5, 2018, showing the acceleration of digital technology in Vietnam, which causes increasing demand for data, smart connectivity, Internet of Things by businesses and the society at large.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung said that Vietnam has been setting out new targets to develop a digital eco-system with digital products and services made by Vietnamese people.

According to Deputy Minister Hung, Vietnam has the 15th largest population in the world with approximately 95 million people, and ranks 16th in the world in the number of Internet users with 60 per cent of the population using the Internet.

Thereby, developing a digital eco-system is a long-term and essential orientation to create values for the society. The capability and desire of Vietnamese firms are enough to dominate the domestic market and even bring products to the region as they receive timely support from policies, market, and customers.

At the Internet Day 2018, VNG Corporation not only presented a diversified application of digital eco-system based on cloud computing technology, but also outlined its vision and solutions forming Vietnam's digital eco-system.

VNG considers cloud computing to be one of the four strategic pillarsof its growth, in addition to online games, connectivity platform, and fintech and e-payment. VNG is building cloud computing solutions towards full stack cloud services.

VinaData, a VNG subsidiary, launched new products and solutions for smart and safe city development. For instance, vTicket is a platform connecting all data and supporting multi-channel interaction between people and the government, between customers and enterprises. vCloudcamis a solution turning normal cameras into a smart one by artificial intelligence (AI) and highly accurate facial recognition.

At the event, Vu Minh Tri, deputy general director of VNG for cloud computing cum director of VinaData, introduced the overview of Vietnam's digital eco-system and business models to seize opportunities and overcome challenges brought by Industry 4.0.

Accordingly, Internet of Things, Big Data, and machine learning will be the foundations our the future, being applied in every field, not only smart TVs, smartphones, smart watches, smart cars, but also in segments and sectors like smart retail, smart transport, smart health, and smart delivery.

By 2020, as many as 50.1 billion IoT equipment are estimated to be used, meaning each person will own six smart devices.

"The fast changes and constant appearance of new business models pressures businesses to change in multiple ways. If the government acts fast enough, and policies and mechanisms catch up with trends, there will be a great many opportunities for technology companies. On the other hand, if the process is delayed, the challenges for Vietnam will only mount," emphasised Vu Minh Tri.
