Wind turbine blade breakage incident at Ia Le 1 Wind Power Plant |
Nguyen Minh Tu, Vice Chairman of Chu Puh People's Committee, on April 29 confirmed that a wind turbine’s blade belonging to Ia Le 1 Wind Power Plant in Ia Le commune, Chu Puh district, has been damaged and broken.
The developer Cao Nguyen 1 Wind Power Development Investment JSC reported to the people's committee that turbine head No.WT04 of Ia Le 1 Wind Power Plant was stopped so that the equipment supplier Ming Yang could conduct routine maintenance work.
However, during the process of adjusting the wind direction angle of the propeller, the site workers claimed that they encountered extreme weather with strong gusts and sudden changes in wind direction. Accordingly, the propeller device was blown away by strong winds before the adjustment was completed, leading to the 80m-length blade colliding with the tower body and causing one of the WT04 blades to seriously in break that evening.
Numerous households was farming in the area under the wind power tower. They saw many pieces of debris from the broken blade, thrown hundreds of metres from the wind power tower, threatening their safety. Some even picked up a piece of the debris.
No injuries were reported
Previously, in June 2023, local media reported that dozens of households had not received satisfactory compensation and support, but the developer Cao Nguyen 1 Wind Power Development Investment JSC of Ia Le 1 Wind Power Plant still conducted testing operations of the wind farm despite local authorities and professional agencies not allowing it.
Gia Lai Department of Industry and Trade officially sent a document to request Vietnam Electricity to intervene and direct the handling of the case.
The Ia Le 1 Wind Power Plant project has a total capacity of 100MW with 28 turbines located in Chu Puh district, and has been operating to generate electricity.
The wind turbines for this wind farm were provided by Ming Yang, a supplier from Guangdong, China, with a total of 28 MySE 3.2MW and 4MW models.
