The VIR honours scholarships on students in Uncle Ho home town

This was part of activities to celebrate the 124th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (or Uncle Ho) as Nam Dan district’s Kim Lien commune was the leader’s hometown.

Of the 160 scholarships in total, 100 were provided to students in Nam Dan district, and the remainder went to pupils in Yen Thanh district.

The money was raised by VIR’s charity golf tournament Swing for the Kids scholarship fund.

During a recent trip to Nam Dan district, VIR, in co-operation with property leader Vingroup’s Thien Tam (Kind Heart) Foundation, donated a computer room valued at VND60 million ($2,860) to Nam Hung primary school in Nam Dan district. 

Also, local company TH True Milk donated 160 gifts to local students and VP Bank Securities gave 15 gifts to Nam Dan district’s best teachers.

This is the firth year VIR has awarded needy but outstanding students in Nam Dan, with the total sum reaching VND264 million ($12,600) thus far.

Earlier, in 2009 and 2012, VIR in co-operation with the Kind Heart Foundation donated two computer rooms to Nam Kim and Tan Dan secondary schools, both based in Nam Dan district. 

Most significantly, a full scholarship valued at VND10 million ($476) per year was given to Le Van Tu (in Nam Dan district’s Van Dien commune). He is a first-year student studying chemistry at Hanoi’s University of Pedagogy.

Tu will continue receiving the scholarship in successive years if he maintains his marks.

“These meaningful activities showcase the deep feeling and goodwill VIR and other corporate donors have for Nam Dan district, and thus contributes to the area’s prosperity,” said district Deputy Chairwoman Le Thi Hang.

Joining the VIR group visiting Uncle Ho’s hometown were representatives from the business community and donors who have contributed to the scholarship fund for needy but outstanding pupils and students.

Among them was SeABank, the Diamond sponsor for this year’s Swing for the Kids.

Also joining the trip were groups of students and teachers from Bac Ha 1 secondary school in northern Lao Cai province and Cua Tung primary school in the central province of Quang Tri’s Vinh Linh district.

This was VIR’s fourth trip to host high achieving students in Uncle Ho’s hometown.

While in Nam Dan district, the VIR group held traditional ceremonies at Ho Chi Minh’s childhood home, the grave of his mother Hoang Thi Loan, and paid visits to his birthplace Kim Lien and his mother’s birthplace Hoang Tru.
