Korea-backed garment producer Youngone Nam Dinh Ltd. has placed priority into handling corporate social responsibility activities in the area.

Nam Dinh city’s Vi Xuyen lake has long been considered the city’s cultural symbol and an ideal venue to relax, practice sports and entertain. For more than three years, the company’s leadership and staff have joined local residents to ameliorate the city’s ‘green lung’, turning it into a periodical activity of its chain of meaningful corporate social responsibility (CSR)  activities targeting the community’s development. In total, Youngone Nam Dinh Ltd. has donated $500,000 to renovate the lake’s winding road, install a modern lighting system in associated park, clean the lake surface and surrounding areas.

“Born in Nam Dinh, I am happy to join this meaningful activity together with Korean colleagues for a green, clean and smart environment. Albeit a minor act, it brings practical values,” said Dang Van Hung, a company worker. Youngone Nam Dinh factory director Kim Young Ho said lending a hand to community development with practical activities through sharing company profits was the commitment of Youngone Group chairman Ki Hak Sung.

“We believe activities like this will benefit the company and Nam Dinh people in cultivating a better society. We yearn for a part in community development parallel running a profitable business,” Kim said.

Free health checks to local people

When Youngone Nam Dinh employees are making efforts to clean Vi Xuyen lake environment, the company doctors and assistants are handling free medical checks to around 300 My Ha commune residents in Nam Dinh province’s My Loc district, eight kilometres from the lake. This activity has for years taken place in poor communes in the province and beneficiaries have exceeded 1,500 people.

To a pure agricultural commune home to myriad impoverished households like My Ha, these free health checks were meaningful, according to My Ha Commune People’s Committee chairman Tran Quoc Khuong.

Apart from that, Youngone Nam Dinh Ltd. deducted part of its profit to donate 300 gift portions to support needy families in the commune.

Parallel to handling CSR activities in the province, the company’s management was appreciated for making strides to ensure a decent workplace environment, wages and other social benefits for its employees and labourers.

The company is expediting a project on building a workers hostel which envisaged accommodating nearly 1,000 workers from other provinces at completion, said the company’s human resources manager Do Thi Ngoc Lan.

For Youngone Nam Dinh Ltd., CSR activities stem from heart and appreciation for community support.

“We came here not only for running a profitable business but also striving to better employees’ quality of life as well as lending a helping hand to the community’s development. From there, we want to create a smart business culture and bring pride to our labourers who are found happy being part of the community’s development albeit they are not yet rich,” said the company’s general director Donghan Lim.

Entering Vietnam in 2004, Youngone Nam Dinh Ltd. operates in Hoa Xa Industrial Zone in Nam Dinh province and it currently consists of 15 garment production, textile and dyeing workshops employing around 8,000 workers.

The company won plaudits from reputed worldwide customers for many years. Its order intake rose constantly even in current time of continuing economic woes.

When other businesses are struggling to survive, the company continues employing 2,500 labourers for production and business expansion plans.

Youngone Nam Dinh Ltd. always strictly adheres to Vietnamese laws and regulations, and making efforts to better workers’ living standards, contributing to social well-being and enhancing Nam Dinh province’s export value.
