Attracting the participation of more than 100 countries, the event (MOSWC) has become one of the world’s largest Microsoft Office playgrounds organised by US-based Certiport for students aged 13-22.
Over the past 18 years, the MOSWC has been a bridge helping students from around the world access Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification – the assessments of Microsoft Office skills and knowledge.
The MOS certification is the most accurate tool for appraising Microsoft Office applications, which allows personnel managers and recruiters to select the best candidates for their positions. As a result, the MOSWC has attracted the attention of all countries around the world.
In a press release sent to US media last week, Certiport – a Pearson VUE business and a leading provider of performance-based IT exams – announced that Vietnam’s Viettel Group is the main sponsor of the world finals of the 18th competition this year.

Viettel was also the first-ever sole sponsor of the finals of the MOSWC held in Dallas, US, in August 2015.
“We are thankful for Viettel’s support for technology in education and are pleased to have them join us as the premier sponsor for the MOS World Championship,” said Ray Murray, vice president and general manager, IT, Pearson VUE. “Viettel is helping us to spread the message of the value of certification and we look forward to their partnership.”
“We support technology in education and encourage students to participate in competitions to enhance their basic IT skills,” said Major General Le Dang Dung, acting president and acting general director of Viettel Group.
“The future begins today – a high-quality workforce starts with the younger generation as they are encouraged and given the opportunity to grow. We sponsor the MOS Championship in Vietnam and now the MOS World Championship because we believe that once the younger generation is trusted and fully supported, they will create incredible things in the future,” Dung added.

Apart from sponsoring the Vietnamese national team, this year Viettel will also sponsor the Myanmar team to attend the world finals via Mytel, Viettel’s subsidiary in Myanmar.
As a leader of the Vietnamese team attending the world finals over the past 10 years, Doan Hong Nam, head of the MOSWC Organising Board in Vietnam and chairman of IIG Vietnam – the sole representative of Certiport in Vietnam, said: “As the largest Microsoft Office competition in the world, the MOSWC has built its prestige thanks to its stringent principles in organisation. Viettel was strongly impressed by the ICT communities from more than 100 nations at the finals of the MOSWC 2015 in Dallas. This year, I believe that the return of Viettel as the premier sponsor will put Vietnam in the spotlight at the finals in New York, and will encourage the national team in the fierce competition with champions from all over the world.”
The final round of the MOSWC 2019 will officially take place at 9pm tonight (July 29) (Vietnam time). The results will be announced and the award ceremony will take place at 9:30pm on July 31 in New York.
