Vietnamese PM launches initiatives at G20 Summit

PM Nguyen Tan Dung and his entourage on November 12 put forward many initiatives while attending two sessions within the G20 Summit in Seoul, the Republic of Korea.

* Setting up policy consultancy mechanisms

At the session on “The World Economy and Framework for Strong, Sustainable and Balanced Growth,” PM Dung lauded G20 for coordinating unprecedentedly policy at regional and global levels which chiefly led to the world’s economic recovery. 

The Vietnamese PM suggested G20 set up policy consultancy mechanisms with some regional organizations, including ASEAN, to exchange information and opinions about economic issues, regional and global finance.

Welcoming G20 member states, particularly the host country, for putting “development issues” on the table at the G20 Summit, the Vietnamese Government chief proposed the group to take more measures to assist developing countries, especially medium-income ones, to avoid falling back to low-income status.

Mr. Dung put forward an idea to establish a network to share know-how among G20 members and non-G20 countries.

* Special climate change fund

Delivering his keynote speech about climate change and green growth, PM Dung proposed G20 do its utmost to reach a legally binding international agreement in response to climate change after 2012 at the 16th Conference of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP6) in Cancun, Mexico, in late November.

The Vietnamese Government chief took the occasion to hail G20 to establish a special fund to back countries badly hit by climate change and hold a forum for sea countries to tackle climate change and protect marine ecology.

After completing the working visit, PM Dung and his entourage flied to Vietnam.
