Vietnam, Russia enjoy comprehensive ties

The relations between Vietnam and Russia have stood the test of time and created a firm foundation for the two countries to boost co-operation in many fields of common interests, a Russian diplomat has said.

The assertion was made by Russia ’s Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Anatoli Vasilievich Borovik at a press conference on February 19 on the occasion of the 63th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Russia (1950-2013) and Russian Diplomats Day.

Borovik said that in 2012 the bilateral relationship was raised to a new high level thanks to the exchange of visits by the two sides’ senior leaders as well as enterprises in order to seek co-operation and investment opportunities in each country.

The Consul General affirmed that Russia will continue to assist Vietnam in implementing the construction of a nuclear power plant in central Ninh Thuan province. He stressed that Russia will provide the plant with the latest and modern technology to ensure its safety.

Last year, two-way trade between Vietnam and Russia reached $3.5 billion, up 40pct from the 2011’s level. The two countries are aiming to double the figure this year.
