Vietnam is re-elected to the WIPO Coordination Committee for the 2012-2013 term at the 49th meeting of the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva from September 26 – October 5.

Under the theme “Encouraging innovation and creativity”, the event drew the participation of hundreds of delegates from 184 WIPO member countries.

Vietnamese delegation, led by ambassador Vu Dung, head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation and other international organisations in Geneva, reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to close work with the WIPO and its member countries in intellectual property to cope with challenges the WIPO are facing and will have to face in the future.

On the sidelines of the meetings, the Vietnamese delegation held talks with the Japanese Patent Office and the French National Intellectual Property Institute. The meetings are expected to open up a new direction for the cooperation between Vietnam and these two countries in the IP field.

On the occasion, Vietnam inked the first-ever agreement in intellectual property cooperation with the US Patent and Trademark Office, marking higher-level cooperation between the two countries in this field.
