From 6.00am on February 27, hundreds of people were lining up to buy silver coins to celebrate the DPRK-US Hanoi Summit at the headquarters of Vietnam Stamp Company (14 Tran Hung Dao Street, Hanoi). The company had to set up a registration table and instruct buyers to wait in line to officially issue the silver coins.

The expected sales amount was 300 coins, however, due to the large number of people registering, Vietnam Stamp Company decided to issue 500 coins at the cost of VND500,000 ($21.74) per coin. The pure silver coins mark an important diplomatic event of Vietnam in 2019. The coin has a diameter of 3.5 centimetres, one face featuring the image of a dove, the symbol of peace, an olive branch, and the flags of the DPRK and the US. The other face has the image of a lotus and the date of the summit.

A full set of products includes one silver coin, one high-end gift box, and a certificate of issuance signed and stamped by the director of the company.

Also related to the second DPRK-US Summit, the Ministry of Information and Communications in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has just held a special launching ceremony of the “DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit” stamp set in Hanoi. Using typical art language and a tight colour scheme, the stamp set shows the US and DPRK leaders’ shaking hands in front of a backdrop of peaceful and friendly Vietnamese bamboo.

It also depicts the Vietnamese flag and the bird of peace with the line “Partnership for sustainable peace” in order to confirm Vietnam’s ability to organise international events as well as proving the country’s friendliness, hospitality, and responsibility towards sustainable global peace.

Under the stamp is the image of Khue Van Pavillion, a symbol of Hanoi, where the second DPRK-US summit is taking place.

The Khue Van Pavilion, literally the “pavilion of the constellation of literature,” is located within the city’s Temple of Literature, which is the first university of Vietnam. On November 21, 2012, the pavilion was selected to be the symbol of Hanoi according to the Law on the Capital City by the National Assembly.

With its meaningful language, this small stamp will help get across the messages “Vietnam – Safe and Friendly Destination” and “Hanoi – City of Peace” to international friends. It also confirms the country’s role as a UN member country – a responsible and reliable partner of the international community in maintaining peace, stability, and development.

According to Vietnam Post Corporation, 800,000 out of two million stamps have been printed, while the remainder would continue to be printed and released in the next few days.

Ngo Hoai Thanh, head of the postage stamps department of Vietnam Post Corporation, said that this stamp set is a record as preparation time – from design, printing to release – only took five days.

The stamp set attracted people's and stamp collectors attention. By the afternoon of February 27, the 800,000 sets of stamps were sold out. This was another record in stamp sales in a single day for Vietnam Post.
