Vietnam finishes Singapore SEA Games in third place

Team Vietnam finished third on Tuesday at the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Singapore after winning no more gold medal in the last competition day.

Vietnamese athletes advanced to the final games of the men’s and women’s volleyball events but they could not win any gold medal in the last two days of the multi-sport tournament.

The closing ceremony of the 2015 SEA Games will take place at 6:00 pm (Vietnam time) at National Stadium.

Vietnam pocketed a total of 73 gold medals, 53 silvers, and 60 bronzes to rank third in the overall medal table of the tournament.

Thailand stands atop the chart with 95 golds, 83 silvers, and 69 bronzes while host Singapore has 84-73-102 medals to finish second.

Female swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien gained the most medals for Vietnam with eight golds, a silver, and a bronze.

Singaporean swimmer Joseph Isaac Schooling won the biggest haul at the tournament with nine gold medals.

The 28th SEA Games marks the fourth time Singapore has ever organized the sports festival after a 22-year hiatus.

The city state hosted four editions in 1973, 1983, and 1993.

Huy Toan among the best goalscorers in football

Vietnamese midfielder Huy Toan is one of the three best scorers in the men’s football category, each of whom has five goals.

The other two are Sithu Aung of Myanmar and Chananan Pombuppha of Thailand.

Following Huy Toan, Mac Hong Quan of Vietnam scored four goals and his teammate Cong Phuong three goals.

The Vietnamese have the second best scoring ability with a total of 23 goals in seven games, after Thailand with 24 goals.

The Vietnamese national football team won a bronze medal after beating Indonesia 5-0 on Monday.

The Thais were crowned the champions following a 3-0 victory over Myanmar in the final game the same day.
