Under the theme of ‘Security, Peace and Reconciliation in Asia’, the general assembly brought together 60 parties from 29 Asian nations and a number of observers and international organisations. The 18th Meeting of the ICAPP Standing Committee and two special workshops on ‘young political leaders’ and ‘women politicians’ also took place on the sidelines of the assembly.
The general assembly also adopted the revised ICAPP Chapter, and the Baku Declaration focusing on ideas for preserving peace and stability to enhance prosperity in Asia, as well as agreed to expand the ICAPP’s Standing Committee membership to 22.
Established 12 years ago, ICAPP now brings together 336 political parties from 54 Asian countries under the motto ‘unification in diversity’. The Baku declaration affirmed the importance of peace and security to the region, applauded positive results of the process of reconciliation and democratisation, in some Asian countries over the past time.
The general assembly also supported the settlement of territorial disputes based on international law and principles of the United Nations Charter and rejected the use of force or threat to use force, and called for promoting co-operation, nuclear disarmament, poverty reduction and sustainable development. It was also suggested that the first conference, between the political parties of Asia, Africa and Latin America, should be held in the second half of 2013.
The Vietnamese delegation actively participated in all activities within the framework of the general assembly, as well as holding talks with political parties from Azerbaijan and other countries, to discuss measures enhancing future co-operation.
