“Taste of Malaysia” tantalises Vietnamese consumers

The first “Taste of Malaysia” event wrapped up at MM Mega Market in Ho Chi Minh City onDecember 11.

As the organiser of the event, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) connected Vietnamese consumers with 250 products from Malaysia.

MATRADE operates in Vietnam and many other countries with a mission to develop and promote Malaysian exports to the world, and to assist foreign organisations to source suppliers of Malaysian products and services.

During the two-week event, the "Taste of Malaysia” took place at 11 MM Mega Market stores in Vietnam, including MM An Phu, MM Binh Phu, MM Hiep Phu (Ho Chi Minh City), MM Thang Long and MM Ha Dong (Hanoi), MM Hung Loi (Can Tho), MM Danang, MM Hong Bang (Haiphong), MM Bien Hoa (Dong Nai province), MM Long Xuyen (An Giang province), and MM Rach Gia (Kien Giang province).

The promotion gave locals an exciting opportunity to update and explore new products and fresh tastes from the historic Asian country.

Sharing at the event, Firdauz Othman, consul general of Malaysia in Ho Chi Minh City, assessed the event as not just promoting Malaysian products, but also promoting the cultural exchanges, mutual understanding, and the spirit of collaboration for Vietnam and Malaysia.

“By showcasing the best of Malaysian products at the event, MATRADE aims to enrich the Vietnamese market and elevate the shopping experience for the local customers,” said Othman.

During the event, 250 Malaysian products were showcased, such as lobster balls, fish tofu, herring in tomato sauce, bean curd in tomato sauce, milk tea, chocolate, and soft drinks.

A wide range of food and beverages and consumer brands were also displayed, including A1 Ak Koh, Sundrin, Nysha White Beauty, Sunquick, Pureen, Carrie Junior, Fisherman’s Friend, Novelle Home, Tehki Food, Glinter, and Teh Tarik.

Locals enjoyed the experience of shopping and exploring Malaysian cuisine and products.

According to Mohd Firdaus Mohammad, assistant trade commissioner, “Taste of Malaysia” is more than just a showcase of food or products, but a vital bridge for cultural appreciation and an economic catalyst that can lead to enhanced trade relationships and business opportunities for both Malaysia and Vietnam.

“Although the first “Taste of Malaysia” has concluded successfully, it also opens grand new chances for Vietnamese buyers to enhance Malaysian products and services. With the support of MATRADE, many more trade events and business networking follow, bringing beneficial bilateral corporation for both countries,” Mohammad said.
