The conferences give professionals in architecture, construction, and engineering a chance to learn about innovations and address industry challenges. This was the first time Vietnam has hosted the event, and powder coatings and sustainability were hot topics on the agenda. Powder coatings are now seen as a top solution for their protective and decorative qualities, and ability their to meet exacting environmental legislation.
AkzoNobel's global segment manager for architecture, Jean-Paul Moonen, featured as one of the guest speakers. "There was a tremendous interest in powder coatings,” said Jean-Paul. "Discerning customers now want the look of a liquid with the properties associated with powder. Our Interpon D range is well placed to meet the technical, aesthetic, and environmental demands of even the most challenging projects.”
"Vietnam has a distinct and diverse climate. Therefore, a powder coating with superior durability is needed to withstand varying weather conditions," he said.

AkzoNobel has a distinguished track record to prove the point. Back in 1992, the architects for Mission Hospital in the US opted to use superdurable Interpon D2000 on the windows and curtain walls. Twenty-eight years later, way beyond their 15-year guarantee, the colour and gloss retention are still impressive.
“At the same time, the company cares about the environment," said Maximilien Schreder, regional commercial director for AkzoNobel Powder Coatings in South Asia. "For example, we have also developed a range with low solar absorption properties as part of our green building solutions. None of our powders contain Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) or heavy toxic metals such as lead or chromium.”
"What’s more, powder is easy to apply, and you can recycle any over-spray. So, you can potentially reduce both your costs and your carbon footprint," Maximilien Schreder said.
AkzoNobel was the first global powder coatings supplier to obtain the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) back in 2015. The recently renewed EPD for the Interpon D range of architectural powder coatings lasts until 2023.
Interpon is the global leader in powder coatings with innovative solutions and global distribution. AkzoNobel's coatings decorate and protect some of the most famous buildings and stadia world-wide, as well as residential buildings, technology, vehicle components, metal furniture, and household appliances. Interpon powder coatings are solvent-free paints which can protect and decorate a wide variety of end-use products.
