PM talks bilateral ties with TASS Russia News Agency

Cooperation in energy and military technology are pillars in Viet Nam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership relations, asserted PM Nguyen Tan Dung, adding that the two sides need to expand cooperation to new areas while continuing with traditional fields.

The PM made that statement in an interview granted to TASS Russia News Agency on Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev’s official visit to Viet Nam from April 5-7.

When asked about the status and prospect in Viet Nam-Russia relations, PM Dung confirmed that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership relations have developed positively, dynamically and effectively, gaining a number of achievements in terms of politics, economics, trade, national security and defense, human cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

In terms of politics, the two nations have launched and diversified cooperative channels and mechanisms, maintained high-ranking visits.

He referred especially to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to Russia in November 2014 as creating crucial forces to enhance comprehensive relations in all fields.

The Viet Nam-Russia Strategic Dialogue on Diplomacy-Defense-Security has played a crucial role in monitoring and proposing measures to launch reached agreements.

The two sides have closely cooperated and supported each other at international forums, PM Dung said.

He referred to the two-way trade turnover of US$2.59 billion reaped in 2014, adding that Russia has poured around US$2 billion into 104 projects in Viet Nam and Viet Nam has invested US$2.5 billion in 20 projects in Russia.

The two nations released the Declaration to conclude Viet Nam-Customs Union Free Trade Agreement in December 2014.

PM Dung spoke about the two sides’ cooperation in energy, agriculture, national security and defense, education and training, culture and tourism. Russia was one of the ten countries having the largest number of visitors to Viet Nam in 2014, with more than 364,000 ones.

He said he hoped that in 2015, which marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties, the two countries will achieve new successes in bilateral cooperation.

Answering the question about new tasks in cooperation in energy and military technology, the PM revealed that Viet Nam and Russia can expand cooperation to such new areas as oil processing and refinery, producing material for powered engines and Russia’s long-term provision of crude oil for Viet Nam.

He expected that in the future, the two nations should accelerate cooperation in military technology, transiting to effective cooperation in inter-production, research and development and establishment of service and warranty centers.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung unveiled issues to be discussed during the Russian PM’s visit to Viet Nam including evaluating recent bilateral cooperation, and exchanging views on specific measures to boost up the two sides’ cooperation in all areas.

The two PMs will review the implementation of high-ranking agreements and the progress of big projects, consent the signing of Viet Nam-Customs Union Free Trade Agreement as well as exchanging issues of international and regional concerns.

The PM said he hoped that outcomes reached during the Russian PM’s visit will show the will and determination of the two countries’ high-ranking officials to enhance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership relationship, contributing to the world and regional peace, stability and prosperity.
