Leepak is one of Vietnam's top plastic manufacturers, with more than 25 years of experience. The company operates two plastics manufacturing factories in Hanoi and Bac Ninh. The Bac Ninh site is one of its key manufacturing facilities that supplies high-quality plastic bags to local and foreign markets.
The factory covers an area of 18,000 square metres in Ha Man-Tri Qua Industrial Cluster in Bac Ninh, with a designed capacity of 2,000 metric tonnes (MT) of plastic bags per month. The factory boasts state-of-the-art production lines with advanced manufacturing technology and a strict production process.
Over the past few years, Vietnamese plastics manufacturers such as Leepak have come under increasing pressure as consumers move towards more sustainable packaging options. Meanwhile, key import markets like the US and the EU have set their sights on packaging sustainability to avoid negatively impacting the environment.
As sustainability becomes an imperative, Leepak is moving forward with its green growth plan to reduce emissions and pollution. The company has chosen Pebsteel and Green Roof to implement the rooftop solar system with a capacity of 1,030 kilowatt peak. Once operational at the end of 2024, the system is expected to cut about 1,000MT of carbon emissions annually.
Under the agreement, and as Green Roof’s partner, Pebsteel will serve as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the project for the client, Leepak.
The investment is a testament to the commitments of CN Green Roof Asia, Leepak, and Pebsteel in promoting renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions. The rooftop solar system will help Leepak lessen its dependence on fossil fuels and accelerate the push towards a more sustainable future.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ngo Hoang Minh, general manager of the Rooftop Solar Division in Southeast Asia at Pebsteel said, "Pebsteel is committed to helping our customers accelerate their transition to renewable energy. We are excited to participate in the installation of the rooftop solar system at the Leepak plastic manufacturing factory in Bac Ninh."
"We are also looking forward to deepening our partnership with CN Green Roof Asia and Leepak to promote renewable energy as we contribute to Vietnam's net-zero by 2050 goal," Minh continued.
Pebsteel has 30 years of experience in the installation of pre-engineered buildings and structural steel. To remain competitive and meet the demands of clients who prioritise sustainability, Pebsteel is adjusting its business strategy by introducing more innovation, including a foray into solar energy.
The rooftop solar division has been developed to enhance its capabilities in the sector, covering everything from project planning and design to installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
"As a one-stop solar service, we can help businesses like Leepak accelerate the EPC process in a sustainable and cost-effective way. With its best-in-class quality, the solar rooftop solution from Pebsteel allows businesses to reduce their electricity expenses significantly while achieving their sustainability goals in the long term," Minh said.
Rob Santler, CEO of Green Roof said, "Since 2021, Green Roof has been on a mission to pioneer renewable energy solutions in Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on the dynamic markets of Vietnam and Indonesia. We are pleased to engage in this partnership with Pebsteel and Leepak to promote sustainable energy and reduce carbon emissions."
"This project is a testament to our commitment to sustainability, and we look forward to enabling businesses to access renewable energy and decarbonise their operations," he added.
The representative of Leepak shared that this project is an important step towards their goal of becoming a more sustainable company. It is committed to reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable energy, and this solar system is a big step in that direction.
