The MoU was signed at the 2018 Investment Promotion Conference of Can Tho in the presence of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and representatives from central and local authorities as well as international organisations such as the World Bank and the trade promotion centres of Japan and South Korea.
According to Bui Xuan Huy, general director of Novaland, different economic sectors need to cooperate to make the 13 cities and provinces in the Mekong Delta in general and Can Tho in particular an attractive tourism destination.
“We are now negotiating and going to sign management contracts with world-leading operators like Marriott, Wyndham, Novotel, and Banyan Tree to manage Novaland’s tourism projects in the coming time,” Huy said.
He added that Novaland is cooperating with its consultant Boston Consulting Group and leaders of other provinces of the Mekong Delta to find suitable tourism models which can combine local advantages and elevate the region to international standard while keeping the environment pristine and local cultural characteristics undisturbed.
Previously, in March 2018, Novaland, the Can Tho People’s Committee, Boston Consulting Group, and MB Bank signed a strategic agreement to implement a project named “Development of the Mekong Delta’s Tourism Sector for Climate Change Adaptation.”
2018 is the first year Novaland joins tourism and resort projects. The group has also recently opened Azerai Can Tho—its first resort project in Vietnam.
