The MoIT also decided not to consider 213 other potential positions for hydro-electricity development in the next three years and review the implementation of Resolution 62/2013/QH13 on strengthening management of the construction planning, investment, operation and exploitation of hydro-power plants.
So far, Viet Nam has housed 306 hydro-electricity plants with a total capacity of 15,473.3 MW. Other 193 projects have been under construction. Up to 245 projects with an estimated capacity of 3,006 MW have been on research and investment stage. Nearly 60 small-size hydro-power plants have been reviewed.
Regarding terraced hydropower stations in big flows, 61 projects have been put into operation, generating 13,101 MW. Around 31 others have been under construction with a total projected output of 3,580.5 MW. About 15 projects have been researched. Three others have yet got research permission.
The MoIT and provincial People’s Committees have abolished inefficient small-size hydro-power plants and made careful consideration of terraced hydropower stations and small ones in terms of economics, technology, environment, and social effects.
