MIC to announce TikTok inspection results

The Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information under Vietnam's Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) said at a press briefing on September 6 that it would announce the comprehensive inspection conclusion into TikTok, next month or before.

Le Quang Tu Do, head of the authority said, “We are completing the inspection conclusion, and finalising commitments to correct and resolve recent violations.”

“The inspection of TikTok has lengthened to longer than expected as it is related to cross-border platforms, which is more complicated than domestic ones."

Earlier in May, an inter-ministerial inspection team was established with the participation of the MIC, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, evaluating TikTok's compliance with Vietnamese legal regulations.

At the meeting, the MIC also announced the results of inspections of violations in cross-border social networks in August. Accordingly, Facebook blocked and removed more than 295 articles posting false information, propaganda against the Party, state, brands, individuals and organisations, meeting the requirement rate of 90 per cent.

TikTok removed 30 offending links posting false information and negative content, meeting the requirement rate of 92 per cent.

Google removed 764 offending videos on YouTube, meeting the requirement rate of 95 per cent.

In particular, Google removed five channels with huge registrations and views (containing 18,900 videos).

Foreign tech giants contribute $166 million in taxes in H1
