Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh requested more reforms at the meeting on April 2 to review the first-quarter performance and set tasks for the upcoming months.

Accordingly, the People’s Committee asked units to continue helping businesses to deal with their difficulties and problems related to tax and administrative procedures, especially for those hit hard by the pandemic, creating more favourable conditions for them to boost production and trading activities.

Economic acceleration

The city’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in the first quarter rose by 5.17 per cent. Its budgetary revenue reached VND72.753 trillion($3.16 billion), meeting 30.8 per cent of the total assigned by the government. The city’s export turnover hit $3.1 billion, down 1 per cent on-year.

Regarding investment attraction, the city lured $101 million worth of foreign direct investment (FDI) between January and March, while having 5,873 new businesses.

During the period, the city will ensure a sufficient supply of goods for domestic use. Many activities will be held to connect the production and consumption of farm produce and seafood among districts, as well as between the city and other cities and provinces.

Key tasks

Looking forward, Hanoi People’s Committee asked relevant authorities to continue taking actions to prevent COVID-19, while increasing operation efficiency to keep economic growth in the second quarter, thus creating growth momentum for the next quarters.

Promotional activities will be boosted to promote domestic consumption, trading links between the city and other localities, while paying due attention to strengthening investment attraction, tapping into opportunities to attract foreign direct investment, and enhancing cooperation activities on sci-tech, trade, and tourism in the post-COVID-19 landscape.

Regarding digital transformation, Hanoi People’s Committee assigned Hanoi Department of Information and Communications to fast-track the completion of norms on the development of e-government, administrative reform, and implementation of online public services.

Hanoi will also intensify inspection and state management activities in key sectors and fields, further improving and renovating specialised inspections, and strongly shifting to the post-check mechanisms from pre-check ones.
