General Giap’s city-wide funeral procession scheduled for Sunday morning

This weekend is devoted to honouring the memory and deeds of Vietnam’s legendary General Giap.

National mourning will run from October 12-13 and will conclude with his body’s long journey home starting at Hanoi’s National Funeral House on Tran Thanh Tong street, where last respects will be paid today, October 12, by top level members of government, state leaders, dignitaries and veterans.

At 7am tomorrow, Nguyen Phu Trong, Party General Secretary will eulogise the procession and at 8am it will start moving from Tran Thanh Tong street and run along Trang Tien, Trang Thi, Dien Bien Phu, Hoang Dieu, Tran Phu, Le Truc, Son Tay, Kim Ma, Cau Giay, Xuan Thuy, and Pham Van Dong streets to Thang Long bridge and finally to Noi Bai International Airport.

Following the ceremony and procession, General Giap will be flown to his family in Quang Binh aboard an ATR72 aircraft for burial.
