According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF), the heavy rains and raging storms in Danang city will last until this Saturday (December 15). Thus, floods in the city may last for several days more.

Since yesterday (December 9), Central Vietnam has been victim to large floods, with Danang city suffering the largest damage. Accordingly, the city’s Hoa Vang district and several central streets like Le Duan (Hai Chau district), Nguyen Van Linh (Hai Chau district), and Ham Nghi Street (Thank Khe district) were submerged by floodwater.

The NCHMF also stated that as of 8 AM this morning, the rainfall was measured at 50-100 millimetres (mm) in Hoa Vang and Cam Le district, 60-120 mm in Lien Chieu, Thanh Khe, and Hai Chau districts, and 80-150 mm in Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts.

Minh Ha from Ngu Hanh Son district told VIR: “The flood invaded my house and I had to buy a new cooker. Luckily, the electric sockets are above the water level, so the damage was not disastrous.”

Due to the enhanced cold front and convergence of westerly winds, Danang city have been suffering from huge rains since 3-7 AM on December 9, receiving 300-400 mm of rainfall in a couple of days.
