Boeing sees Southeast Asia as a key growth market

Boeing’s presence in Vietnam and Indonesia will support the company’s growth objectives across its commercial airplanes, defense, and services businesses. It also announced the appointment of Alexander Feldman as the new president of the company’s Southeast Asia business, effective from August 27.

“With over 380 million people under the age of 35, Southeast Asia will bolster Boeing’s growth for decades to come and support hundreds of thousands of American jobs as well as countless others across the region," Feldman said.

Many Boeing suppliers have set up a presence in Vietnam. MHI Aerospace Vietnam Co., Ltd. (MHIVA), capitalised at $7 million, was established in December 2007 at Thang Long Industrial Park near central Hanoi as Vietnam's first company to engage in commercial aircraft component production. Since the launch of commercial production in September 2009, MHIVA steadily increased its production capacity of the flaps for the Boeing 737.

In 2014, MHIVA completed the construction of a new manufacturing factory in Hanoi, and production of passenger doors for the Boeing 777. Simultaneously, it also delivered the shipment of its 1,000th inboard flap for the Boeing 737.

Another supplier Nikkiso Japan opened a facility near Hanoi in 2010. The facility produces components for the 747 and 767, 777 thrust reverser blocker doors, and the 787 thrust reverser torque box assembly and wing fixed leading edge composite subassemblies.

Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet, and Bamboo Airways are currently operating Boeing aircraft. Boeing has committed to developing Vietnam’s commercial aviation sector through facilitating new airplane leases and sourcing parts from companies based in Vietnam.
