On December 29, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Department of Information and Communications, in collaboration with Dat Do People’s Committee, organised a communication initiative with the theme of Green Living Day. The event attracted the participation of more than 500 volunteers and Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 H’Hen Niê.
Being the second campaign on environmental protection and sustainable development of seas and islands in the area, the event called on local people and tourists to raise awareness of environmental protection and take practical steps.
The drive also aimed to encourage community activities and movements for the environment, pushing towards a green and circular economy and sustainable development.
Nguyen Cong Vinh, Vice Chairman of Ba Ria-Vung Tau People’s Committee, requested departments and relevant branches to focus on encouraging people to change their lives and build their awareness of sustainable lifestyles that are in harmony with nature.
"It is necessary to focus on converting the economic model to green, promoting socialisation, and attracting businesses, organisations, and individuals to invest in pollution treatment, monitoring, and environmental protection. In addition, we need to effectively implement solid waste management projects and classify household waste at source," Vinh said.
In addition, the units are discouraging the use of non-biodegradable nylon bags and single-use plastic products, producing and using environmentally friendly alternatives, and propagating legal policies on environmental protection, marine biodiversity conservation, and climate change.
The programme donated 4,000 cloth bags to residents and tourists, as well as 100 public rubbish bins to Dat Do district and local households. It also organised tree painting activities, visited Ca Ong temple in Phuoc Hai town, and toured the memorial house and monument park of the heroic martyr Vo Thi Sau in Dat Do town.
