Amway Vietnam continues support to free cleft lip surgeries

This is the first programme of the social activities to be implemented in 2012 by Amway Vietnam and Operation Smile Vietnam and is part of the One by One campaign initiated by Amway Vietnam and Operation Smile Vietnam since 2008. The programme will take place from May 14 to 18.

On the first day of the programme, general director of Amway Vietnam How Kam Chiongvisited and donated gifts to the patients and their families.

“In 2011, Amway Vietnam and Operation Smile Vietnam carried out free surgeries for about 200 children with cleft lip/cleft palate deformities. In the first surgical operation in 2012, we hope to bring brighter smiles to more children as part of our One by One campaign with the message “The Journey for Smile and Hope” we are looking forward to,” he said.

So far, the One by One campaign of Amway Vietnam has helped more than 2,200 needy children through various activities. In addition to sponsoring the programme, Amway Vietnam and the volunteers who are the company’s staff and distributors have also donated gifts to the patients and helped the doctors, nurses, patients and their families during the surgical operation.

This is the fifth consecutive year that Amway Vietnam has partnered with Operation Smile Vietnam to carry out free surgeries for children with cleft lip/cleft palate deformities.

As planned, Amway Vietnam and Operation Smile Vietnam will continue to carry out this free surgical operation programme in many other localities for unlucky children.

1. In Vietnam, one child in every 500 is born with a facial deformity. This means thousands of innocent children across the country are victims of disfiguring birth defects.

One By One Campaign was initiated by Amway Global in order to assist disadvantaged children all over the world. In Vietnam, during the 2008-2010 period, Amway Vietnam partnered with Operation Smile Vietnam and Hands of Hope to contribute VND2.4 billion ($120,000) to fund community projects, helping 2,200 disadvantaged children throughout the country.

The parent company of Amway Vietnam has set a record in community activities in 2011, helping some 1.5 million children worldwide with the contribution of $166 million and 2.5 million hours of voluntary work. Amway Group’s Global Citizen Report has recognised typical innovatives of the group such as the Nutrilite Little Bits campaign to supply nutrients to malnourished children in Zambia, the first unofficial charity in China, and the cooperation with the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs and Operation Smile Vietnamin helping underprivileged children in Vietnam.
