Viettel fined VND171 million for pay television services

The Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information (ABEI) has imposed a fine of VND171 million ($7,659) on Viettel Group due to its non-compliance with ABEI’s licence, according to information published on ABEI.gov.vn.

Notably, the authority issued a fine of VND140 million ($6,271) on Viettel due to its violation in supplying mobile pay-television services without the necessary licence.

In addition, Viettel has yet to supply film programmes matching ABEI’s licence to provide pay-TV services, which incurred an additional fine of VND15 million ($671.9 million).

On the third count, the group was fined VND8 million ($358.3 million) for violations in supplying cable television services in eight cities and provinces, namely Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Haiphong, Can Tho, Danang, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, and Dak Lak. The services provided in these provinces are not compliant with ABEI’s licence to provide pay-TV services.

On the final count, another fine of VND8 million ($358.3 million) was imposed on Viettel, because the group supplied pay-television channels VTC4, VTC13, HTVC, BTV4, MOV, HcaTV2-You TV, HTVC in the above eight cities and provinces, which are considered not to comply with ABEI’s licence to provide pay-TV services.
