According to current regulations, an airline will have its air transport license cancelled if it stops operation for 12 consecutive months.

Air Mekong suspended operation in March 2013. The carrier was debt-ridden at the point.

Air Mekong, Vietnam’s second privately owned carrier besides Indochina Airlines, was licensed in 2008. It began operations in October 2010, offering services on eight domestic air routes.

VietJet Air, which became the country’s third private airline in 2011, is now the only active private carrier as Indochina Airlines lost its license in 2010.
