New search engine like Wada is having trouble getting a firm foothold in the domestic market.

After more than one year’s operation, on November 15 wholly Russia-owned joint stock business New Horizon Internet (NHI) hosted a press meeting on the launching of new version together with practical functions for users of online search engine Wada.

In the meantime, the company uncovered a strategic cooperation between Wada and famous web browser Opera.

Industry insiders assumed entering Vietnam’s search tool market at this time was hard for a new search engine like Wada.

To date, there are well-known global and local players like Goggle, Bing or Socbay.
Of them, Google is appraised as an unrivalled search engine in Vietnam which reportedly accounts for 90 per cent market share in the country.

“In respect to technology, search engine like socbay could not compete head-on with Google,” said Nguyen Xuan Tai, general director of Naiscorp, the owner of socbay.com.

“For Wada to success and trace root firmly in the Vietnamese market presents us great challenge,” said Wada CEO Pham Tien Thinh.

Referring to what are the opportunities for pure Vietnamese search tools like Wada, Socbay, Xalo and Timnhanh, Thanh said: “Developed by a team of software experts in the mother tongue Vietnamese, Wada is in a position to bring users the search results in the shortest time.”

“These advantages and rich information resource would help Wada witness success in potential Vietnamese market,” Thinh said.

As the first search engine specifically developed to Vietnamese people, in the near term Wada offers users search choices being categorised into news, images and website lists. Of them, website lists are Wada’s prominent advantage as it brings together several hundred thousand Vietnamese website domains across the sectors of social life which are classified into over 300 groups with explicit and practical information for each website.

In respect to Wada’s strategic cooperation with Opera, Thinh said both sides’ advantages would be tapped to benefit users as Opera is the web browser featuring ‘lightening’ speed whereas Wada is the search engine specially developed for Vietnamese people with high accuracy.
