Vietnam’s top leaders met with US President Donald Trump

Vietnamese Party General Secretary cum State President Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc have held bilateral talks with US President Donald Trump, who is in Hanoi for the DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit.

The two nations agreed that they will further economic, trade, and investment ties.

Firms from Vietnam and the US also seized this occasion to sign a number of co-operation deals.

“Since I arrived in Vietnam last night, I have seen big changes in your country. I am very proud of Vietnam and how much it has improved economically in the year since I last visited. Today, the whole world is paying attention to you,” President Trump said.

“Vietnam is thriving and, very importantly, we have a very big dinner tonight, as you know, and meetings with North Korea, chairman Kim, and we both felt very good about having this very important summit in Vietnam because you really are an example as to what can happen with good thinking,” he said.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had talks with US President Donald Trump

President Trump arrived at Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport late on February 26 for his second summit with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s (DPRK) Chairman Kim Jong Un, who arrived in Vietnam earlier on the same day.

Trump was welcomed by Minister, Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung, Standing Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, Deputy Minister of Public Security Bui Van Nam, Vice Chairman of the President’s Office Chu Van Yem, and Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Ha Kim Ngoc.

This is the second time the US President has come to Vietnam. In November 2017, he paid an official visit to Vietnam and attended the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in the central coastal city of Danang.
