Vietnam’s Minh advances in US Open

Vietnam's top badminton Nguyen Tien Minh breezed through to the quarter-final round of the Yonex OCBC US Open GPG badminton tournament on July 11 in California.

The world No 9 defeated Malaysia 's Chun Seang Tan 21-11, 21-15 only after 21 minutes.

Minh, who is seeded third in the tournament, will play the winner of the match between American Sattawat Pongnairat and Antonio Benjamin Gadi of the Philippines .

On the women's side, Vu Thu Trang of Vietnam lost 18-21, 16-21 to Salakjit Ponsana of Thailand on July 11. Trang earlier trounced Christine Yang of the US 21-8, 21-1 in the first round.
