The event is expected to attract the participation of nearly 500 delegates from Vietnam, countries in the Mekong River Basin, and the ASEAN, as well as international organisations.

Pham Vu Khanh, director of the MoH’s Administration of Traditional Medicine, said at the press briefing on August 28 that, “With the hosting of the event, Vietnam wants to affirm the important role of traditional medicine in the healthcare system. The MoH has been paying attention to the development of traditional medicine and through the event, the country will promote its achievements, and learn and share experiences with regional countries to further develop traditional medicine in the future.”

As part of the event, there are several activities such as an exhibition on traditional medicine, a demonstration of unique remedies with traditional medicine and an international scientific seminar.

The event is an opportunity for participants to introduce their traditional medicine, share experience and achievements, and discuss the application of traditional medicine in community healthcare.

Especially, the conference will propose means of co-operation between Vietnam and countries in the Mekong River Basin, and between Vietnam and China to protect and develop traditional medicine.

Vietnam now has 65 traditional medicine hospitals in 63 cities and provinces. Annually, around 30 per cent of patients are diagnosed and treated with traditional medicine or a combination of traditional and western medicine.
