Vietnam joins 2013 Axiata Cup badminton tournament

Vietnam’s national badminton team will take part in the 2013 Axiata Cup badminton tourney from March 21st to 31st.

Well-known badminton players from Ho Chi Minh City, including Tien Minh, Hoang Nam, Bao Duc and Hong Gam, will join the team.

As planned, the 2013 Axiata Cup qualifier rounds will take place in both Indonesia and Malaysia. The four top teams will play the semi-final and final rounds hosted by Malaysia.

Vietnam will first take on Indonesia on March 21st. According to experts, in this match, Tien Minh, 9th in the Badminton World Federation’s latest rankings, is the only hope of the Vietnamese team, while Indonesia has stronger players.

Vietnam is scheduled to play against the European Coalition on March 22nd, the Philippines on March 23rd and Thailand on March 24th.

The champion of this tournament will receive US $400,000, the first and second runners-up will pocket US $200,000 and $150,000, respectively.
