At the World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on February 11, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son met UAE Minister of Economy Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri.

DPM Son hailed the role of Al Marri as chairman of the UAE Sub-committee of the Vietnam-UAE Inter-Governmental Committee, who has made important contributions to promoting the bilateral relations, especially in promoting the signing of the CEPA in October 2024.

Son suggested that the two sides make efforts to complete the approval in the first quarter of 2025 and effectively implement the CEPA as soon as possible. This is coupled with informing the business community of the two countries about the opportunities and benefits that the CEPA offers.

He also highlighted the achievements and investment environment in Vietnam. He proposed the UAE Ministry of Economy to fulfill commitments made between the two countries’ leaders during the official visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the UAE last year, including promoting trade and investment from the UAE into Vietnam as well as sharing experiences in national development and governance.

The UAE Minister of Economy said, “Beside a series of activities being implemented in recent months, the UAE Ministry of Economy is accelerating its commitment with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to organise a large-scale investment conference in Vietnam in 2025. The conference will see the participation of corporations, regional and international enterprises, and prestigious speakers to share experiences, encourage economic cooperation, and attract investment from the UAE and the world to Vietnam.”

The UAE Minister of Economy added that he appreciated Vietnam’s efforts to complete its policies, improve the business environment, and raise national competitiveness. In light of these reforms, more UAE businesses are keen on the Vietnamese market. They have travelled to Vietnam to work with local partners, especially in the fields of high technology, AI, energy, infrastructure, and seaports.

According to Son, the UAE boasts experience in building the world's leading international financial centres and free trade zones. The UAE can support Vietnam by sharing experiences in building policies to attract investment, constructing and operating international financial centres in Ho Chi Minh City, Danang, and free trade zones in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, and Haiphong.

The UAE Minister of Economy also highlighted the UAE's good governance experiences in developing flexible visa policies, financial centres, and free trade zones. He said that the UAE was ready to support Vietnam in these fields.
