Reigning European and world champions Spain has increased its lead over 2010 World Cup finalists Netherlands in the FIFA Ranking.
La Furia Roja recorded Euro 2012 qualification wins over Czech Republic and Scotland this month, while Oranje beat Moldova but lost to Sweden.
Germany, Uruguay and Brazil complete the top five, with the 2014 World Cup hosts proving to be the biggest movers among the top teams as it went up two places.
Greece, up three places to eighth, and Denmark, up seven places to 10th, also made big strides forward in October. Croatia, meanwhile, dropped three places to 12th, and are out of the top 10 for the first time this year following its failure to directly qualify for Euro 2012.
Mexico remains North America's top ranked team at 22nd position. The United States continues to drop and is now at 34th place.
Cote d'Ivoire is still Africa's highest ranked nation at 19th position, despite losing three places this month.
Japan is Asia's top team at 17th position, but Australia is not far behind as it occupies 20th place in the ranking.
