SEA Games: swimmer Quy Phuoc makes Vietnam history

Vietnam’s Hoang Quy Phuoc won the gold medal in the men’s 100m freestyle swimming in the Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia’s Palembang Wednesday night, his second gold in the biennial SEA Games.

Phuoc finished the 100m competition in 50.79 seconds to beat Singapore’s Kai Qan Yeo, who came second in 50.98.

Indonesian swimmer Triady Fauzi was third in 51.36.

Phuoc has made his own history as the first Vietnamese to win the men’s SEA Games 100m freestyle swimming.

On Monday, he won the gold medal in the men’s 100m butterfly event of the Games.

This is the first time Vietnamese swimmers won two golds in such a region Games.
 
In addition to the Danang City man, 15-year-old Nguyen Thi Anh Vien of Vietnam has secured two silvers in the women’s 100m backstroke and 400m mixed events.
