The journey towards building eco-friendly industrial parks (IPs) to gradually reduce their carbon footprint is becoming increasingly respected by investors at Nam Dinh Vu IP.

Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of Haiphong People's Committee, said that Haiphong has been striving towards green and sustainable development since 2010.

The green conversion pillars are set to encompass economic zones and IPs, seaports and logistics, high-tech industries, commerce, and tourism.

The greening of economic sectors has been identified as a key part of the city's socioeconomic development resolutions, gearing towards green growth and sustainable development.

Haiphong is determined, together with Hanoi and Quang Ninh province, to play a leading role in the development of the whole region by promoting the development of the digital economy, digital society, green economy, circular economy, and new economic models.

Nguyen Thanh Phuong, general director of Sao Do Group — a major industrial real estate developer in the city, said that green and sustainable development take priority for every project implemented by Sao Do Group.

The company is working actively with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) consultants regarding conversion to an eco-IP model, moving step by step in accordance with the process.

Nam Dinh Vu Industrial Park is striving to become a successful destination for investors

To contribute to realising the Vietnamese government’s net-zero commitment by 2050, as pledged at COP26, and making Nam Dinh Vu IP a place where investors can enjoy competitive advantages by using renewable energy for production, Sao Do Group has signed strategic cooperation deals with energy groups from the EU, deployed rooftop solar power, and is striving to use clean and environmentally friendly energy.

In addition, businesses at Nam Dinh Vu IP have signed a cooperative agreement on promoting green development at the IP, prioritising the use of environmentally friendly technologies and renewable energy in production and business through rooftop solar power.

Sao Do Group has determined that the greening of the IP must be aligned with UNIDO evaluation criteria on the development of green and ecological IPs.

Enhancing local investment promotion

Sao Do Group is also striving to best avail of investment opportunities to be found at the city’s diverse working sessions with foreign delegations.

So far this year, delegations from China, Chinese Taipei, and South Korea have visited Haiphong to learn about the investment environment and seek cooperation opportunities. This has ushered in cooperation opportunities in diverse potential areas such as logistics, clean energy, technology transfer, and green growth.

Sao Do Group leader Nguyen Thanh Phuong noted that the city's investment promotions for international businesses would create huge opportunities for both sides.

For Nam Dinh Vu IP, Sao Do Group can promote the image and advantages of the IP, such as its infrastructure and facilities, directly to investors.

Through meetings with city leaders, investors can learn about the infrastructure and the supply chain within the IP, and links between businesses in the area.

With a total area of 1,329 hectares and an investment reaching $375 million, Nam Dinh Vu IP is home to more than 60 foreign-invested projects from countries such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong (China), Chinese Taipei, Germany, and France.

With internal seaports, and modern and synchronously invested logistics ecosystems, Nam Dinh Vu offers competitive advantages compared to other IPs. It is the only IP in Haiphong with an internal seaport. This area currently has seven container terminals and general ports, with bonded warehouses and other utilities available.

Currently, phase I of Nam Dinh Vu IP covering over 370ha has been filled. Phase II will include a further 960ha, and more than 400ha are now under intensive construction.

Priority shall be given to businesses that utilise high technology with a focus on green development.

This is an example of Nam Dinh Vu IP’s commitment to success and sustainable development for investors not only in the region but also all around the world.

Haiphong is the second-largest locality in the Red River Delta behind Hanoi. In terms of industrial production, the city is among the top five localities nationwide and is witnessing strong growth momentum.

In 2023, the city's regional GDP surged 10.34 per cent, among the top performers in the country and marking the 9th consecutive year of growth surpassing 10 per cent.

By implementing extended producer responsibility, Vietnamese businesses can meet the increasingly high demands of partners and participate extensively in the global value chain, but it is also a challenge because new regulations always take time to deploy and enforce effectively.
