NEW YORK: Five-time champion Roger Federer advanced on Wednesday (Sep 9) to his 10th US Open semi-final, where he will face compatriot and close friend Stan Wawrinka for a spot in Sunday's final.
Second seed Federer raced past 12th seed Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 for his 15th win in 17 meetings against the Frenchman.
Federer, bidding to become the oldest champion in New York in 45 years, holds a 16-3 career edge over Wawrinka.
But Wawrinka defeated him in their last meeting on his way to the French Open title in June.
