Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said that the State economy always plays a key role in the multi-sector economy and is an important tool the State uses to regulate economic activity.

PM Dung made the statement at the first congress of the Party Committee for State-run businesses that opened in Hanoi on November 19 attended by 318 delegates representing almost 70,000 Party members in the sector.

The PM praised the results recorded by the sector’s Party members, officials and workers over the past three years.

However, he said, the Party Committee needs to recognise shortcomings and weaknesses, including inefficient business activities, weak competitiveness and the slow equitisation of enterprises.

He took the occasion to call on the State-run businesses to enhance Party building work to meet the requirements of the new era.

He asked the congress to thoroughly discuss and analyse the reasons for the shortcomings and weaknesses, and draw up solutions for the next tenure.

The PM said he believed the sector’s Party members and officials will enhance solidarity to overcome challenges and strengthen the leadership capacity to successfully fulfill targets set by the congress.

He also hoped that all economic groups, corporations and State banks will continue to improve the quality and effectiveness of production and business activities to align with their key role in the economy.

The two-day congress will focus on discussing political reports and reviewing reports by the Party Committee’s Executive Board for the 2007-2010 term as well as electing a new executive board for 2010-2015 and delegates to the 11th National Party Congress.

The State-run business sector Party Committee was established under the Resolution of the fourth Party Central Committee (10th tenure) in April 2007. It comprises a group of Party committees of economic groups, corporations and major State-run enterprises.
