Over 60 million voters carry out duty

Over 62 million voters nationwide on Sunday join the biggest elections since doi moi to select 500 best candidates for the new parliarment, said Party General Secretary and NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong.

The leader made the statement at his meeting with correspondents in Hanoi after casting  ballots for the members of the 13th National Assembly and People's Committees for 2011-2016 term.

On the occasion, more than 3,800 and over 280,000 members will be elected to the provincial People’s Committees and communal People’s Committees, respectively.

Vietnam has entered a new development stage with a 2011-2020 socio-economic development strategy and the elections are of crucial importance to the country’s future.

The Party chief called on voters to ardently go to the polls to choose the best candidates for the contry’s highest legislature and People’s Committees at all levels.

The same day, PM Nguyen Tan Dung cast his votes in the northern city of Haiphong.

The elections are scheduled to close at 7pm on the same day and election results are expected in one week.
