Le Quang Liem wins HDBank tourney

Vietnam’s leading chess player Le Quang Liem (Elo 2709) officially won the HD Bank International Chess Championships in Ho Chi Minh City.

At the final round (9th) on March 24th, Liem played to a draw with Hungarian Grandmaster Berkes (Elo 2702), who was seeded No.2 at the tournament.

Grandmaster Liem won the championship with 7.5 point after 9 games and pocketed $10,000.

Earlier, Quang Liem performed well in games at the 7th and 8th rounds on March 23rd, especially his victory in round 7 against Jianchao of China.

The HDBank 2013 International Chess tournament is the biggest such international event held annually in Vietnam, under the official system of the Chinese World Federation (FIDE). In the previous two seasons, the title belonged to foreign players.
